Olabode Olawuyi’s death was characterized by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as excruciating, particularly since it came from a lion he had been feeding for the previous nine years.
Alabareports noted that on Monday, a 9-year-old male lion mauled Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist employed by Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife zoological garden, to death.
Alabareports also learned that Olawuyi died trying to save a female coworker who had been mauled by the same lion before.
This was disclosed by Governor Adeleke on Thursday through a statement released by Olawale Rasheed, his spokesperson.
It is devastating to hear about Mr. Olawuyi’s abrupt passing, especially considering that he has been feeding a lion for the previous nine years.
“My sympathies go out to the affected parties of the sad event, including the immediate family. They are not alone in their sorrow and suffering following the untimely death of Mr. Olawuyi; neither the government nor the people of Osun do.
“I ask God Almighty to give everyone affected by this sad event strength to endure the irreversible loss and to comfort them all.
“I pray to God to fill the void left by his death for Olawuyi’s immediate family and everyone who depended on him while he was alive, and I also pray for his soul to rest in peace.”
