Olamide, the reason I didn’t sign Omah Lay

Olamide, a Nigerian rapper and music executive, has disclosed the reasons for his decision to not sign singer Omah Lay to his YBNL Nation label.

When Omah Lay was just starting out, the YBNL chief claimed he was interested in signing him, but the singer told him he was already under contract with another label.

In an interview with British-Nigerian television personality Adesope Olajide, also known as Shopsydoo, Baddo, as he is affectionately known, revealed this.

“Someone sent me Omah Lay’s song, ‘Bad Influence,’ so I had to like search for him on Instagram,” Olamide stated. He responded to my message expressing my desire to sign him by saying he already had a [recording] agreement.

The rapper also disclosed that he experienced depression for almost four years after the list of hit songs ran out.

But he claimed that after recording singles like “Wo” and “Motigbana,” he had “swag back.”

Songs like WO and MOTIGBANA still have a magical quality to them. I believed I would never be able to understand myself. “I was going insane,” he remarked.
