Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is suing Senate President Godswill Akpabio for a whopping N25 billion in damages after the senator made a disparaging statement about him.
According to Naijaloaded, Akpabio stated on Sunday that there are so many accusations against Emefiele that the federal government is unsure of which ones to press against him.
The president of the Senate also attributed the nation’s economic woes to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s policies.
As the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Your Excellency is undoubtedly aware of, or has good reason to be aware of, the fact that the Federal Government of Nigeria has been pursuing charges against Our Client since August 14, 2023. Our Client has long since entered a plea of not guilty, and he is currently defending the charges to clear his name and demonstrate his innocence.
Therefore, it is troubling that the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Head of the Legislature would make such a declaration on an issue that is obviously under dispute.
“With the utmost respect, your statement blatantly compromises the independence, honor, and integrity of the Court and could potentially harm our cause.
